A newly released report from the University of the Pacific (UOP) reveals that the total San Joaquin County-wide economic impact of Stockton Metropolitan Airport is in excess of a half billion dollars.
“This report captures the significant economic role that Stockton Airport serves in the Stockton and San Joaquin Valley region,” said Harry Mavrogenes, airport director, “and we look forward to continued growth that serves the community.” He noted that air-passenger traffic at the Airport, which tripled between 2007 and 2014, is on the upswing with Allegiant’s new flights to San Diego, potential daily flights to Los Angeles, and the Airport is expanding into exciting new areas like air-cargo services and international passenger services.
The report quantified the current economic benefits generated by air-passenger, corporate-air, air-cargo services and general aviation, in addition to hosting a range of other businesses not directly related to aviation, which create:
- 2,269 jobs
- $115.5 million in total labor income (almost all from private-sector jobs)
- $230.7 million in total value added
- $541.8 million in total output
- $48.1 million in associated tax payments to federal, state, and local government (mostly from private-sector jobs)
“Stockton Metropolitan Airport is a true economic generator for the County, which will continue to strengthen and grow our business community,” said Moses Zapien, Chair of the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors.
The report also estimates the economic impact of proposed international and domestic air-passenger service to Guadalajara, Mexico (GDL) and to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The first year of operation for the service to GDL would create 30 jobs with a total output of $4.1 million increasing to 64 jobs with a total output of $8.9 million by the fourth year. For the service to LAX, 78 jobs would be created with a total output of $10.7 million.
