Saskatchewan Residents Can Now Fly Nonstop to Florida

July 25, 2016

Regina International Airport (YQR) now has a once-weekly seasonal direct non-stop flight with WestJet to Orlando. The flight with departures every Thursday will be operated on a 737-700 with a capacity of 130 seats starting Oct. 27, until April 27, and is Saskatchewan’s only direct non-stop flight to Florida.

“We are pleased to announce the news of this weekly seasonal service with WestJet,” said Richmond Graham, president and CEO, Regina Airport Authority. “Service to Florida is an important market to our passengers with Orlando being one of our top unserved destinations and one of our top four transborder destinations.”

YQR worked closely with Orlando International Airport (MCO) to secure this route and will continue to work with them to ensure the route meets all expectations. Both airports are excited about this new route and the opportunity it will bring.

“WestJet’s decision to introduce service between Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada and Orlando International Airport represents more than just opening a gateway to our 16th Canadian destination,” says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “This new service also expands the borders of free trade and leisure travel and strengthens our bonds with one of our most prolific international travel partners.”

“There is significant importance in connecting both regions for business and tourism and we look forward to continuing our growing partnership with Orlando International Airport,” said Graham. “And with less time making or worrying about connections Saskatchewan residents can focus on what really matters to them be it for business or leisure.”
