GE and Its Joint Ventures Receive More than $25 Billion in Orders/Commitments at 2016 Farnborough Airshow

It has announced more than $25 billion (USD) in orders and commitments at this week's Farnborough Air Show. The orders and commitments included more than 800 GE and CFM engines as well as TrueChoiceTMsuite of engine maintenance offerings.
GE Aviation and its joint venture companies, including CFM International, a 50/50 joint company between GE and Snecma (Safran), announced more than $25 billion (USD) in orders and commitments at this week's Farnborough Air Show. The orders and commitments included more than 800 GE and CFM engines as well as TrueChoiceTMsuite of engine maintenance offerings.
Orders/commitments include (all values quoted in U.S. dollars at list price or over the life of the agreement):
  • Asiana Airlines selected CFM International's LEAP-1A engine to power 25 A321neo aircraft. The engine order is $950 million, including spare engines and a long-term support agreement.
  • The United Kingdom purchased 50 Boeing AH-64E helicopters equipped with GE's T700-701D engines. This will represent the first time GE has sold an off-the-shelf military engine to the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence. 
  • Turkish Airlines and GE signed extensions to its TrueChoice Flight Hour and TrueChoice Overhaul agreements for the CF6-80E engines that power its fleet of seven Airbus A330 aircraft. Along with the maintenance, repair and overhaul services, GE Aviation will also partner with Turkish Airlines on leadership training as part of these agreements, which are valid until 2026.
  • TAP Portugal ordered 83 LEAP-1A engines to power its new fleet of Airbus A320neo/A321neo aircraft.
  • Emirates extended its TrueChoice Flight Hour agreement with GE for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of 54 GE90-115B engines that power its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The extended agreement is valued at more than $400 million.
  • Standard Chartered Bank ordered CFM International's CFM56-7B engine to power 10 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft, and the order is valued at $224 million.
  • Austrian Airlines and GE expanded a TrueChoice Flight Hour agreement to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services to 10 GE90-90B enginesthat power its Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. The agreement is valued at $70 million.
  • COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd.) held two signing ceremonies a total of 90 ARJ21 aircraft powered by GE's CF34-10A engines. The CF34-10A engines are valued at more than $1.5 billion.
  • Lufthansa Technik AG and GE Aviation signed new long-term agreements for maintenance services for the GE9X and GEnx-2B engines.
  • StandardAero renewed its independent TRUEngine authorized maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) provider agreement for CF34 and CFM56* engines.
  • Volga-Dnepr Group and GE Aviation signed a Memorandum of Understanding that include a $1.4 billion expansion of a TrueChoice Flight Hour agreement and the long-term provision of logistics support services to GE using Volga-Dnepr Group's freighters.
  • EGYPTAIR signed a TrueChoice Materials agreement for maintenance, repair and overhaul consulting services to assist in the development of overhaul capabilities for the CFM56-7B* engine.
  • AWAS chose CFM International's CFM56-5B engine to power 10 new Airbus A320ceo aircraft. The engine order is valued at $320 million.
  • TUI Group selected the GEnx-1B engine to power an additional Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. TUI Travel and GE also expanded a TrueChoice Flight Hour agreement for engine maintenance, repair and overhaul services to include these new GEnx-1B engines.
  • AirAsia ordered 200 additional CFM International LEAP-1A engines to power 100 new Airbus A321neo aircraft. The engine order is valued at $2.7 billion.AirAsia also signed a long-term support agreement.
  • Hong Kong-based China Aircraft Leasing Company (CALC) selected CFM International CFM56-5B engines to power 20 firm and up to five options of new Airbus A320ceo aircraft. The firm engine order is valued at $430 million.
  • Air Europe ordered CFM International's LEAP-1B engine to power 20 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.  The engine order is valued at more than $800 million, including a maintenance agreement.
  • Icelandair signed a TrueChoice Transitions agreement with GE Aviation for three overhauls of its CF6-80C2 engines powering its Boeing 767 aircraft, as well as an engine lease.
  • Thomas Cook Group Airlines signed a five-year TrueChoice Transitions agreement with GE Aviation for the time and material to repair and overhaul its fleet of CF6-80C2 engines that power its eight Boeing 767 aircraft.
  • LATAM and CFM International finalized a long-term service agreement to support the operation and maintenance of 35 of the group's CFM56-5B engines.
  • Safran Aircraft Engines signed a three-year Material Repair Agreement with Unison Industries in support of the maintenance of CFM56 engines.
  • Emirates signed a 10-year After Market Services Agreement with Unison Industries in support of the largest GE90 and GP7200 engine fleets in the world. The agreement extends through 2025 and covers external Unison new parts and component repairs for GE Aviation and Engine Alliance engine families in the Emirates fleet.
GE Aviation also made the following announcements at the 2016 Farnborough Airshow:
  • GE Aviation finalized agreements with IHI Corporation, Safran Aircraft Engines and Safran Aero Boosters as participants in the GE9X engine program. 
  • Four new software application powered by GE's Predix were announced, including Flight Phase Analyzer that enables customers who provide continuous engine operating data to gain new insight into optimizing their flight operations; Water Wash App that provides visibility to the significant time on wing gains that can be achieved through effective water wash and offers tools to optimize the procedure for maximum fuel savings; ClearView Invoicing App that gives customers a host of new functionality and visibility into invoicing details, increasing ease of business; and Engine Health Validator app that was adopted by Willis Lease Finance Corporation to evaluate engine condition, reducing time and cost to transfer engine assets between lessees.
  • Dowty Propellers signed a letter of intent to develop and supply the propeller electronic controller (PEC) on twin-engine MA700 regional aircraft from Xi'An Aircraft Company (XAC), a subsidiary of China's AVIC.
  • GE formed a cross-functional partnership with pan-European industrial and academic partners to develop technologies and crew interface standards for the next generation of passenger aircraft, with funding from the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking.
  • Dowty Propellers has started component deliveries for propeller systems that will equip the demonstrator for Antonov's new AN-132 twin-engine transport aircraft.
  • Engine Alliance (EA), a 50/50 joint company between GE and Pratt & Whitney, added two new engine overhaul centers to the GP7200 MRO network in Dubai and Singapore: Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre (EEMC) and Pratt & Whitney Eagle Services Asia Pte Ltd (ESA), respectively.
  • CFM International celebrated the production of the 30,000th CFM56 engine.
