FARNBOROUGH, 12 July 2016 - During this year's biennial Farnborough International Airshow, TAG Farnborough Airport announced that 22-year-old Emily Smith has been awarded the TAG Flying Scholarship 2016, which will provide training towards a National Private Pilot's Licence (NPPL).

The TAG Flying Scholarship is part of the airport's "Aviation to Education" programme that reaches out to schools and colleges within the local area to inform and educate about aviation. Each year TAG Farnborough Airport and the Air League Educational Trust grant one young person a scholarship to gain flying experience.

Emily, from Burnley, Lancashire, currently located in Uxbridge and studying Aviation Engineering with Pilot Studies at Brunel University has been chosen this year. She completed a competitive application process, underwent aptitude tests and an interview before final selection. Emily will receive training at the Pilot Centre at Denham airfield and the time flown will count towards a NPPL.

Emily Smith said: "I would like to thank TAG Farnborough Airport for providing me with this great opportunity. It has always been my ambition to become a professional pilot and the support of the Flying Scholarship will be invaluable in achieving this."

Brandon O'Reilly, CEO TAG Farnborough Airport, said: "We are keen to encourage young people to reach their full potential and are proud to support this through our community engagement. I'm pleased to award this scholarship to Emily as she pursues her career in the world of aviation and am sure she will benefit greatly from the flying experience this scheme offers."
