TYR Rolls Out Incentives for New Airline Business

July 5, 2016

Recently, the Tyler City Council approved a change of ordinance to allow for Tyler Pounds Regional Airport (TYR) to offer incentives to initiate additional or enhanced air service. The ordinance was updated to draw additional and new services to the Tyler area. There are several incentives outlined in this plan.

For any airline agreeing to offer new service, landing fees will be waived for up to 12 months as long as the service comes from a new destination airport. Also, the Airline Ticketing Office space leased to the new service will receive a 50 percent discount on rental costs.

If an airline agrees to add at least one new daily weekday direct flight from Tyler to the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, landing fees will be waived up to 12 months.

If an existing airline replaces a smaller aircraft with a larger one and agrees to not reduce existing scheduled services from Tyler to a current destination, landing fees will be discounted to a flat rate of $27.00 per landing for up to 12 months.

“This is a great opportunity for Tyler Pounds to bring in more business to the East Texas area,” said Davis Dickson, airport manager. “Good commercial air service is important to East Texans and this incentive program can be a tool to enhance our service in Tyler. We are centered in a great area with the convenience of a large airport. We want the airlines to offer our customers more options. That’s what we are trying to do with the incentive program.”
