Eduardo Valencia to Lead MAC's Information Technology Division

June 24, 2016

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) welcomes Eduardo Valencia as its vice president/chief information officer overseeing the organization’s Information Technology Division.

Valencia brings with him 15 years of public sector IT leadership experience, as well as experience in operations, strategic planning, business development and consulting.

“Technology is becoming increasingly critical to airport operations and the traveler experience,” said Dennis Probst, chief operating officer for the MAC. “Eduardo’s experience leading large, transformational IT projects will help ensure Minneapolis-St. Paul International and the MAC’s general aviation airports are at the forefront in adopting technologies leading to increased efficiency, security and customer service.”

In his new position, Valencia will oversee technology visioning, delivery, and support for the MAC and its seven airports. He will oversee a wide variety of technologies ranging from common-use airline check-in systems, to flight information and security wait-time displays, to security access and monitoring capabilities, to distributed antennae and Wi-Fi networks, to enterprise business information systems.

“I’m delighted to join an organization with a vision for how technology can advance its overall mission,” said Valencia. “I look forward to helping provide an improved airport experience through the effective use of information technology."

Valencia previously held positions with the state of Minnesota’s Office of Enterprise Technology, where he started in 2008 as the state’s chief technology officer. In 2011, he was appointed Minnesota’s deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Information Technology organization, MN.IT.

Prior to his roles at MN.IT and as deputy commissioner, Valencia served as chief information officer for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, where he led the implementation of marquee projects such as the unemployment insurance integrated technology initiative, the Minnesota Works premier job bank rebuild, and the development of cross-agency, cross-public sector customer relationship management solutions for economic and labor development purposes.

Originally from Asturias in northern Spain, Valencia now resides in Grey Cloud Island. He is married with two children and holds a B.A. in economics and Spanish from the University of North Dakota and a masters in Management of Technology (MOT) from the University of Minnesota.
