BWI Announces New Playground is Open

June 23, 2016

Officials at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport announced June 23, that new playground equipment is now open for use at the Thomas A. Dixon Jr. Aircraft Observation Area.  Located along Dorsey Road on the south side of BWI Marshall, the new playground equipment replaces an aging play structure that was removed in December 2015.

“BWI Marshall has more to offer than just air travel,” said Ricky Smith, chief executive officer for BWI Marshall Airport.  “This new playground is an excellent community resource for local residents and visitors.  We’re thrilled that an updated play structure is available for children as part of the aircraft observation park and the overall BWI Trail.  We know families will love the new playground.”

The Dixon aircraft observation park and the new playground offer recreational opportunities for visitors and communities near the airport.  The park provides outstanding views of aircraft operations on one of the primary commercial runways at BWI Marshall, Runway 15R-33L.  The park is part of the overall BWI Trail network, a 12.5 mile scenic trail that encircles the airport.  The BWI Trail is used by bicyclists, walkers, and joggers.  BWI Marshall was the first major U.S. airport to have a dedicated public trail.
