June 22, 2016

Fairbanks travelers now get a taste of the freshest, local ingredients from the region right inside Fairbanks International Airport with the grand opening of The Local @ FAI. The Local, an original dining concept from HMSHost, was designed specifically for airports and marries the freshest ingredients from local suppliers for menus loaded with region-centric culinary creations.

“Fairbanks International Airport, our passengers and the Fairbanks community are so fortunate to have the addition of “The Local @FAI” as the new food and beverage concession at the airport and are looking forward to a successful partnership with HMSHost,” said Theresa Harvey, chief of leasing, Fairbanks International Airport.

The Local is a brand that HMSHost has expanded in North American airports and it has grown in popularity among travelers for how it delivers a true sense of the region in which it operates. The Local @ FAI features a variety of breakfast options, as well as sandwiches, salads, and hearty meals alongside a full bar featuring local craft brews and specialty cocktails.

“HMSHost is proud to partner with Fairbanks International Airport to bring this enjoyable dining environment with great quality menu items that Fairbanks travelers will love,” said HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Stephen Douglas. “The addition of The Local @ FAI embraces only the finest ingredients with a décor that creates an atmosphere that gives travelers a true taste of what Fairbanks has to offer.”

The Local @ FAI celebrates the tastes of Alaska with a full bar that serves an array of regional brews for local and tourist travelers to try from Alaska Brewing, Denali Brewing, Midnight Sun, and Kassiks Brewing. A special retail section in the restaurant offers items from local Alaska favorite, Copper River Seafood.

At the Local @ FAI, travelers can choose from a variety of appetizers such as Bavarian Pretzels with cheese fondue and Dirty Chips--kettle chips topped with brisket trimmings, garlic aioli, and scallions. Entree selections include flatbread pizzas and salads, as well as a variety of sandwiches such as the beef brisket and turkey sliders, and burgers such as the Country Burger topped with pulled pork, cheddar, and slaw. For early morning travelers, guests will find a selection of breakfast sandwiches, omelets, and skillets as well as grab-and-go baked goods.
