On June 17, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) welcomed Volaris Airlines' new route between Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Monterrey International Airport with twice-weekly service. This is the Mexico-based ultra-low-cost carrier's first nonstop, transborder (U.S.-Mexico) service from Monterrey.

The service uses an Airbus A320 aircraft configured with seating for 174 passengers and will operate on Monday and Friday. The flight from Chicago departs at 11:15 a.m. and arrives in Monterrey at 2:44 p.m. The flight from Monterrey departs at 6:45 a.m. and arrives in Chicago at 10 a.m.

Volaris Airlines operates at both O'Hare and Midway International Airports, and now offers nonstop service from Chicago to seven destinations in Mexico with the addition of service to Monterrey.

The airline started service at Midway in 2010 with daily service to Guadalajara. The carrier expanded its presence in Chicago with flights from O'Hare in 2013.
