Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings announced that its SKYscapes® General Aviation (GA) Basecoat Polyurethane Enamel has been added to the QPL (Qualified Products List) for Bell Helicopter's Procurement Specification 299-947-117

Andover, Kan. – Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings announced that its SKYscapes® General Aviation (GA) Basecoat Polyurethane Enamel has been added to the QPL (Qualified Products List) for Bell Helicopter's Procurement Specification 299-947-117, for use on several of its Bell Helicopter commercial aircraft.

Ideal for exterior painting on general aviation and helicopters that often require expedited production times, the Sherwin-Williams’ SKYscapes GA Basecoat 855 Series – SG, SGE, SGM and SGP colors – is designed to deliver the maximum in appearance and productivity by delivering a consistent and colorful solid, mica or metallic finish.

SKYscapes GA Basecoat features fast dry times (approximately 60 – 90 minutes DTT) that lead to improved productivity, a simple mix ratio, all while delivering excellent flow and leveling. After clearcoat, it provides a high gloss finish that can be easily cleaned, buffed and repaired.

Bell Helicopter’s Procurement Specification 299-947-117 requires aircraft coating products and systems to meet rigid tests in time to clearcoat, ambient flexibility, heat resistance, wear resistance, weathering resistance, and accelerated corrosion requirements. Previously, Bell Helicopter added Sherwin-Williams’ original SKYscapes basecoat-clearcoat paint system to its QPL listing. The original SKYscapes basecoat system also provides superior appearance and durability and its patented technology is AMS 3095 certified. This complete paint system cures at ambient temperature in half the time of other single-stage aerospace coatings systems.

Designed to meet demanding aviation market needs, both SKYscapes innovative coating systems provide brighter, better hiding colors than traditional paint systems and their superior technology can actually cut as much as 30 percent from OEM paint process time.

“We are proud to again be added to Bell Helicopter’s Product Specification QPL list,” said Chip Mullins, Global Sales Manager of Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings. “Having worked with Bell Helicopter and Textron Aviation on other programs, we understand the quality and durability their upscale products demand, and will continue to provide and service them with the best aircraft finishes available.”

Meeting the highest in OEM standards and qualifications, Sherwin-Williams provides innovative aerospace coatings designed to give all types of commercial, military and general aviation aircraft long lasting coverage with increased durability. This gives aircraft more “in-service” time and allows for longer periods between paint jobs.
