AsBAA, the Asian region’s non-for-profit representative trade body for business aviation today landed in Singapore to host a series of #AsBAAintheCommunity activities and events. These included the launch of its first Singapore Student Chapter event in association with Embry Riddle, Aeronautical University, a Regional Chapter AsBAA meeting hosted at AON’s Asia Pacific regional HQ, and an evening welcome networking cocktail event held at McGettigan’s Irish Bar, Clarke Quay ahead of the CJI- Corporate Jet Investor two day conference hosted at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
AsBAA Chairman, Charlie Mularski kicked off the Student Chapter with an introduction to Corporate Aviation as a career choice for the group of around 40 Embry Riddle aeronautical university students. The engaging and interactive presentation entitled “What’s YOUR Flight Path” which included the AsBAA’s leader’s personal career history, an overview of business aviation, some inspiring career stories, as well as possible routes into business aviation for the students. Later followed sessions from Ying Ying Loo, Sales Operation Manager, Jet Aviation, Gary Moran, Head of Aviation, AON, and Caspar Baum, Consultant and Director, Surbana Jurong Private Limit, all AsBAA member volunteer’s that supported the events.
Charlie Mularski said, “We’re in an aging industry, and although everyone is focused on growth there also needs to be a sustainable stream of next generation talent to support this in the future. The work of the AsBAA Student Chapter has been very successful in China, where we have seen our students connect with industry and also Orbis for work experience, so we can see this model working. We are delighted to launch the Singapore Student Chapter, and hope it can be successful in raising the awareness of the benefits of our industry as a job creator, as well as creating opportunities for young people in Asia.”
The series of presentations which will be made available to AsBAA members included a session exploring the less commonly known areas of of BizAv and GenAv such as humanitarian and emergency services, and leisure industries. This then led into a presentation from AsBAA’s chosen charity, Orbis Flying Eye Hospital. The charity joined the Student Chapter to share its inspiring news of the completion of the fully equipped mobile Eye Surgery hospital inside an MD-10 with two full surgical theatres on-board. The announcement of the outstanding new flying eye hospital comes ahead of the upcoming Icons of Aviation Awards, 6 November in Hong Kong in support of the charity and the announcement of an AsBAA & Orbis contest for members to become part of aviation history by visiting the only flying eye hospital coming to Asia this Autumn.
The final session focused on interview techniques “Tips, Tricks and Things to Avoid” before closing remarks Q&A and a luncheon for the group of students to network with AsBAA members and leaders and learn more about routes into the industry.
