Amsterdam, 25th April, 2016 – Starbucks and licensed partner HMSHost today announce the opening of The Pavilion at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s Lounge 2. The Pavilion store is the largest Starbucks airport store for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region covering over 470 square metres, and marks the 2500th store in the region. This store is particularly special, as it will feature Starbucks Reserve™ coffees, offering some of the rarest, small lot Reserve coffees from around the world and will be the first store in the Netherlands to serve Starbucks Evenings menu, with a curated assortment of wine, beer and sharable small plates.

Arjan Oudejans, vp branded solutions, Starbucks EMEA, says: “This new store is a celebration of all that we have achieved in the Netherlands since we opened our first store in Schiphol in 2007, bringing the latest in store innovation for our customers. We can’t wait to open and welcome local Dutch and international airport travellers to try our Reserve coffees and new Evenings menu in this beautiful store, influenced by Dutch culture and design.”

“We are delighted to support our partner Starbucks with introducing the new Evenings menu to the Netherlands for the very first time,” says Walter Seib, CEO HMSHost International. “The concept is perfectly aligned to our desire to find creative ways to meet customers’ demands at airports all over the world. We’re sure travellers flying in and out, or transferring at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol will love the experience of drinking great coffee in a beautifully designed environment, enjoying the option to eat a hot meal and enjoy a drink.”

Starbucks Reserve

The Pavilion store will immerse customers in the world of coffee. The unique taste profiles from small-lot Starbucks Reserve coffees come to life with premium brewing methods such as Clover™ brewing method, pour-over, Siphon and Chemex and will be served at a 15-meter long island bar which acts as the ‘coffee theatre’. The first Reserve coffees to be featured will be Nicaragua Maracaturra, Ethiopia Guji, and Kenya Kaganda.

Starbucks Evenings

The Pavilion is the first store in the Netherlands, and one of the first stores in continental Europe, to serve the Starbucks Evenings menu as a perfect complement to Starbucks Reserve coffees. The extended menu offers a range of small meals and shareable hot and cold snacks with carefully selected wines and beers – including a cheese platter featuring all Dutch cheeses such as Reypenaer VSOP, Dutch goat cheese and Blanco Nederblauw, served with rosemary flatbread sticks, and Dutch Free Range Beef Chili served with Sour Cream and Tortilla Chips.

Store Design

The store offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding lounge and onto the runway. It is the largest Starbucks airport store in the EMEA region and the displayed Starbucks wordmark, made out of woven black steel wire and green leathers sleeves with Dutch typography, is the largest in the world. Inspired by Dutch design tradition, the store has many unique design aspects including the ceiling which is reminiscent of the Dutch polder landscape, visible while flying in and out of Schiphol. Inspired by Amsterdam’s diamond industry, the ‘bean wall’ showcases the world’s most rare and exquisite coffees where the Starbucks Reserve coffee beans are displayed like precious jewels.
