Exova, the global testing, calibration and advisory services provider, is supporting apprentices at the Coombs Wood Science and Technology Centre at Halesowen College.

The centre is one of the first in the UK to support higher apprenticeships alongside local businesses that require advanced skills in science, technology and engineering.

In conjunction with the college, the team at Exova’s specialist Corrosion Centre in Dudley has helped Pippa Smyth to complete her Level 4 apprenticeship. She is now furthering her career by working as a corrosion technician with Exova while studying for a HND in applied chemistry and laboratory management at Halesowen College.

Helene Jones, general manager at Exova Dudley, said: ‘We’re proud to be supporting the next generation of technical experts that will train and work with Exova.

‘The new centre at Halesowen College will enable us to grow our global business with the best of local talent, giving apprentices like Pippa exposure to an industry leader while developing her core skills.’

Helene Jones has also been appointed as a governor of the Halesowen College Corporation, which helps to drive the college forward though strategic counsel from its twelve members. Helene’s membership has helped to further strengthen links between Exova and local education establishments.
