PEMCO Announces Stellar 2015 Results

March 16, 2016
MRO hours increased 24% on a year-over-year basis. As a percentage of sales, Gross Profit Margins improved by 45%.

PEMCO World Air Services, a leading aviation maintenance and conversion company, completed fiscal year 2015, recording a vast array of improvements across its metrics. MRO hours increased 24% on a year-over-year basis. As a percentage of sales, Gross Profit Margins improved by 45%, yielding a higher Operating Profit and Operating Profit Margins than 2014.

On the cargo side, PEMCO delivered conversions to new as well as ongoing operators, who are pleased with the performance of the company’s existing products. PEMCO’s B737 cargo door STC benefits from (i) being strategically located away from the engine, precluding engine damage during cargo handling, and (ii) the location of the center of gravity, which results in ongoing fuel savings for operators. Likewise, turn time on the conversion was reduced by 14 days.

This result is attributed to two main factors: (i) Lean implementation throughout the facility; and (ii) a more engaged workforce that fully understands the mission. As a result, on-time performance improved 29% over the previous year.

During 2015, PEMCO strengthened its management staff by bringing on individuals with diverse airline and MRO experience. The company is reaping the benefits of applying best practices across its functional areas of expertise.

In 2015, PEMCO received the Frontier Tech Ops Excellence Award for its performance on the interior modifications, six induction visits, one a/c lease return, and a number of maintenance events — on time, on behalf of Frontier’s fleet.

Entering 2016, PEMCO signed a new heavy maintenance contract with an LLC carrier and a modification contract with a major U.S. carrier.

PEMCO heads to the Aviation Week MRO Americas conference, April 5-7, on some serious tailwinds. “We’re thrilled and very encouraged by our 2015 year-end numbers,” said CEO Pastor Lopez. “This year has gotten off to a great start, and I don’t see us slowing down for the remainder of ’16.”

The following chart shows the company’s YTD performance for the three top existing contracts through the end of February:
