SAVANNAH, Georgia, February 3, 2016 — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced that it recently received approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to install avionics known as Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast In (ADS-B In) on Gulfstream G150 and G200 aircraft.

With this installation, Gulfstream G150 and G200 operators can receive traffic and weather information from ADS-B ground stations and nearby aircraft broadcasting their positions through ADS-B Out. The information can be displayed on a portable electronic device such as an iPad, enhancing safety for the flight crew and passengers.

“Unlike ADS-B Out, ADS-B In is not required by the FAA, but it has tremendous value for pilots,” said Rick Trusis, vice president, Mid-Cabin Programs, Gulfstream. “Our ADS-B In solution offers enhanced flight information, including real-time weather reports and synthetic vision, as well as important flight information, such as aircraft identification, position, altitude direction and speed. The bottom line is it enhances situational awareness, which can lead to greater safety in our skies.”

ADS-B is a satellite-based surveillance technology for tracking aircraft and is part of the Next Generation Air Transportation System. ADS-B Out is required to operate aircraft in portions of airspace above Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. The technology, which has benefits that include optimized flight paths and reduced separation in areas of limited or no radar coverage, will be required to fly in U.S. and European airspace by January and June 2020, respectively.

Outfitting the G150 and G200 with ADS-B In includes installation of Garmin’s Flight Stream 210 Bluetooth transmitter. Installation of ADS-B Out is a prerequisite to installation of ADS-B In.

The installation can be performed on FAA-registered G150s and G200s at any one of Gulfstream’s service centers.
