Daytona Beach, Fla., Jan. 4, 2016 – Whether you’re a hobbyist with a new recreational unmanned aerospace system (UAS) / drone or a professional interested in using one in business, safety must be a priority. That’s why Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide is offering a free online course for new users later this month.

The “Unmanned Aerospace Systems (UAS) – Key Concepts for New Users” massive open online course will complement widely available resources by providing a closer look at basic concepts that support newcomers to UAS - whether that be in recreational, public or commercial operations.

The two-week course will address airspace issues and safety concerns – along with UAS basics, UAS operating environment and the do’s and don’ts of recreational UAS/drone operations. The primary goal is to educate new UAS users about operating procedures that foster safe UAS operations.

Registration is currently open, and the course runs from Jan. 11 to 24. Led by Embry-Riddle Worldwide Assistant Professor Dr. Pat Ford, the online course encourages student interaction through discussion board postings, a student lounge area and Twitter. This self-paced offering allows participants to attend as their schedules permit. Participants do not need to be Embry-Riddle students to enroll.
