Machine Cuts and Cold Rolls Its 1000th Legacy Propeller Blade

Lake Zurich, IL…

Aircraft Propeller Service, LLC (APS, www.aircraftpropeller.com, Lake Zurich, IL), one of the oldest, largest and leading commercial propeller Maintenance Repair Organizations (MROs) has hit an important milestone. APS announced that its team member, Stan Skowron, has machine cut and cold rolled its 1000th legacy propeller blade fillet radius since joining APS in 2003. The Hamilton Sundstrand blade, which was made in 1986, is from a 14RF-19 propeller used on the SAAB 340B type aircraft. Making the achievement even more significant is the fact that the milestone was reached after the proprietary process was moved from Hamilton Sundstrand’s Long Beach facility in 2003, when the manufacturer closed the facilities and elected to license the repairs to APS. The company is the license holder for all of the Americas.

APS Vice President of Sales and Marketing Dennis Santare noted that, “This production achievement is a testament to the high level of technical capabilities APS team members possess. Stan and others in our MRO line-up, are highly skilled technicians who are dedicated to preserving the service life of blades and other components. Through high quality maintenance and repair processes, the life of propeller systems can be significantly extended, while costs associated with their extended lifecycle dramatically reduced.”

According to Santare, the machine cut and cold roll repair process enables a blade to go back on the engine for at least another overhaul cycle. “This process specifically requires technical competency and skill, and demonstrates how our team members are different from others in the industry.  Without the recipe of OEM support, high technology, skilled hands, and a sound approach, 1000 blades would have otherwise found their way to the scrap heap.”

APS has a longstanding reputation for its commitment to OEM products. Its ongoing loyalty to aging fleets and their continued high quality, safe performance is well-recognized in the industry and by manufacturers like Hamilton Sundstrand who place their confidence in APS and its MRO capabilities.
