Garmin has developed a stand-alone ADS-B system that satisfies global ADS-B requirements, yet leverages existing avionics equipment to alleviate the need for expensive flight management system and cockpit display upgrades.

November 17, 2015, Moline, IL – Elliott Aviation, the industry’s leading Garmin retrofitter, today announced the company nearing STC certification on an ADS-B IN & OUT solution for the Hawker 750, 800XP, 850 and 900XP for installation of a Garmin ADS-B solution.

Garmin has developed a stand-alone Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) system that satisfies global ADS-B requirements, yet leverages existing avionics equipment to alleviate the need for expensive flight management system and cockpit display upgrades.

The new system employs Garmin’s GTX 3000 Mode S extended-squitter transponder that broadcasts aircraft position information, GDL 88 ADS-B datalink and a Flight Stream wireless gateway to provide compliant ADS-B OUT capability in conjunction with existing avionics suites. The system also integrated with TCAS and other existing aircraft systems to provide owners and operators a seamless, minimally invasive upgrade path for ADS-B compliance.

Garmin’s Flight Stream adds additional benefits to the solution by providing an ADS-B IN capability that allows pilots to receive subscription-free flight information service-broadcast (FIS-B) weather information, including NEXRAD, METAR, TAF’s and NOTAMs.. These can be displayed on a mobile in-cockpit device, negating the need for a cockpit display upgrade.

Overall, the solution can provide the full ADS-B experience at reduced cost, while retaining a familiar cockpit interface.

Elliott Aviation will also be obtaining STC approval in 2016 for Garmin ADS-B solutions in the Beechjet/Hawker 400A/400XP, Premier 1/1A, legacy equipped Hawker 800A/800XP and Hawker 1000. Additional legacy equipped Citation airframes are being evaluated at this time.

“As a Hawker service center, we wanted to offer an ADS-B solution for our customers ,” said Conrad Theisen, Director of Avionics Sales for Elliott Aviation. “The Garmin solution was the best option for us to pursue and we are looking forward to having solutions for the upcoming 2020 ADS-B mandates.”

Certification of the system is expected in the first Quarter of 2016.
