TCC Celebrates 50 Years at Historic Panther Island
FORT WORTH, Texas (July 29, 2015) –Tarrant County College is celebrating a 50-year legacy of service to the community Saturday with a free public event at Panther Island on the Trinity River in downtown Fort Worth. The hallmark event, “TCC Proud: Celebrating 50 Years,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a formal program at 11 a.m.Program highlights include “Over the Years,” a historical tribute, as well as greetings and proclamations from elected officials and a bond-burning ceremony in honor of TCC’s final payment on general obligation, making it debt-free for the first time since bonds were first issued in 1966.Family-focused activities include a Kids Zone with a balloon artist, face painting and treats; members of the Fort Worth Vaqueros FC providing soccer skills demos and lessons; and, visits by fun mascots – the Texas Rangers’ Captain and TCC’s Toro. Additional highlights will include:·Doing Up the Decades – performances from each campus highlighting the last five decades: South, 60s; Northwest, 70s; Northeast, 80s; Southeast, 90s; and Trinity River, 2000s.·The Education Try-Way – where participants can try their hand at flying with a laptop flight simulator, record their memories of TCC in the Radio/TV/Film studio, learn to spell their names in sign language and enjoy chocolate-dipped fruit while checking out TCC programs and services showcased in tents on the banks of the Trinity River.·Vida Van Sampling Team – Dr Pepper’s own brand ambassadors host Pepper Pong with four flavors to savor.KISS-FM radio also will be on site to add to the fun atmosphere.Learn more about TCC by viewing the 50th anniversary video and reading its history by accessing the anniversary website at:http://www.tccd.edu/50th
