The move enables Sunrise to elevate its flights between Port-au-Prince and Santo Domingo (JBQ) to regularly scheduled status, while also paving the way for added expansion to other destinations throughout the Caribbean.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – (May 26, 2015) – Sunrise Airways announced today that it has been awarded a Part 129 Operating Permit from The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation. It is the first Haitian airline to earn Part 129 status. The move enables Sunrise to elevate its flights between Port-au-Prince and Santo Domingo (JBQ) to regularly scheduled status, while also paving the way for added expansion to other destinations throughout the Caribbean.

“We’ve taken another big step forward with this announcement, one that will have a significant impact on our ability to successfully grow our route network in the months to come,” said Philippe Bayard, President of Sunrise Airways. “My hat goes off to our dedicated team whose commitment to excellence in every phase of our operations made this possible. We’re proving something that many would’ve likely thought impossible not long ago: that Haiti can produce a world-class airline.”

Sunrise Airways’ new regularly scheduled service to Santo Domingo builds upon its scheduled operations between Port-au-Prince, Haiti and Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Travellers can connect on same-day service from Santo Domingo to Santiago de Cuba, via Port-au-Prince or vice versa. The carrier also operates 52 weekly scheduled domestic flights between Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitien – four rotations daily Monday-Saturday, plus two rotations on Sundays.

“Even as we were working toward Part 129 certification, we were already in expansion mode, increasing our domestic flights between Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitien to meet consumer demand.” said Bayard. “Now we’re looking at acquiring larger aircraft to better connect the Caribbean.”

The current Sunrise Airways fleet is comprised of 19-seat Jetstream 32 EP aircraft, providing ample head- and leg-room, plus the added comfort of refurbished cabins and fresh upholstered seating.
