Duncan Aviation Parts Sales Consignment Team Celebrates 30 Years

LINCOLN, NEB. —  We buy parts and avionics. We also consign what we don’t buy. But consigning isn’t an afterthought, it’s a process Duncan Aviation Parts Sales has perfected. And it’s a service that is celebrating 30 years at Duncan Aviation.

In 1985, our parts team became a master Piper parts distributor for seven discontinued Piper models. That contract snowballed into the consignment program Duncan Aviation currently boasts, serving customers every hour of every day.

“Our relationship with Piper really helped jumpstart the consignment program. We grew in team members and square footage, seemingly overnight,” explains Accredited Personal Property Appraiser Bob Tooker.

Duncan Aviation Parts Sales moved from its cramped building to a new location just a stone’s throw away. Their goal was simple: take care of storing, as well as selling parts and components for customers so they don’t have to.

“Instead of an operator storing, cataloging, advertising, selling, invoicing, collecting payment, packaging and shipping parts on their own, we take care of it all for them,” says Parts Expert Susan Masek.

As the team celebrates 30 years, they credit success to their ability to convert surplus parts to cash with minimal work on the operators’ part.

Typically, customers ship their excess parts inventory to Duncan Aviation where the consigned part is evaluated it, priced it, warehoused and even insured, just in case the unexpected happens.

Duncan Aviation then utilizes its expert marketing services for the consignment parts—adding the parts to numerous parts listing services and contacting potential buyers from the company’s pool of Fixed-Base Operators, flight departments and other service providers and operators. The company also has 13 regional managers strategically placed across the world, promoting its products and services.

“We’re available around the clock,” says Susan. “We don’t leave a customer hanging, regardless of time zone, holiday or time of night, so that gives us—and consequently our consigners—a competitive edge.”

The program is mutually beneficial to Duncan Aviation because, simply put, having a part on-site means a better opportunity for a sale.

“Because we have so many resources and options in-house at Duncan Aviation, we try to determine the best option for our customers who call us time after time, year after year,” says Susan. “We can inspect parts, repair and overhaul components, recertify them and then sell them.”

Physical access allows for easier coordination of door-to-door or overnight delivery services, which are often used by Duncan Aviation’s global customers.

“Duncan Aviation has a dedicated parts sales team, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to helps sell our consigned parts to customers over the phone, through email, by fax and via website live chat,” says Parts Sales Team Leader Shirley Crouch.
