2nd Annual “Learn to Fly” Day Hosted by Zulu Flight Training and Continental Motors Services

Fairhope, Alabama,  April 30, 2015 – Zulu Flight Training and Continental Motors Services, divisions of Continental Motors Group (CMG), an AVIC International Holding Corporation company will hold their second annual  “Learn to Fly” day on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at H. L. Sonny “Callahan Airport” in Fairhope, AL. Admission is free. Events and activities will include Discovery Flights, Young Eagles Flights, aircraft displays, flight simulators, educational seminars, children’s activities, and more. Hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream handmade on site, and other refreshments will be available free of charge.

The purpose of the event is to promote the joy and benefits of flight, how easy it is to learn to fly, and our community’s role in aviation.  Last year’s event was a huge success with 700 in attendance. Sixteen pilots gave 94 Young Eagle flights and 53 discovery flights. 

Zulu Flight Training instructors will again offer free Discovery Flights to prospective flight training students and demonstrate the latest flight training methods. A discovery flight is a first look into the exciting world of aviation. You will get a chance to take the controls under the watchful guidance of a FAA Certified Flight Instructor that will provide you with a basic understanding of what it is like to be a pilot.

For ages 8-17, Young Eagles Flights will also be held thanks to the generosity of the local EAA Chapters. Participants will get a chance to experience the process of flying from start to finish. Since 1992 Young Eagles flights have been safely conducted in nearly every type of general aviation aircraft, from light planes to business jets, and everything in between.

Aircraft on display will include war birds, production civilian aircraft, and amateur-built kit airplanes. Participants can also “fly” the Cessna 172 full motion simulator.

“The event will allow young people to be exposed to potential careers in aviation.  In addition to flights, instructors will provide career seminars on how to become an airplane mechanic and pilot,” stated Bill Ross, Director Product Support and Continental Motors Services. “The Mobile and Baldwin county areas are quickly becoming a thriving area for which aviation careers can be fostered.  We want to raise awareness on how easy it is to become a pilot, how aircraft ownership is well within reach and how anyone can learn to fly,” continued Ross.
