Video-Based Queue Measurement System Approved For SAT

April 7, 2015
New system at SAT’s Terminal A will measure security wait times.

April 3, 2015 (San Antonio, TX)— Customer convenience just got a little better at San Antonio International. Yesterday, San Antonio City Council approved funding for a new video-based system that measures the length of time it takes passengers to get through security in Terminal A, saving travelers time and delivering an enhanced customer experience.
The new system will display the estimated wait time for the last person in line at the Terminal A Security Checkpoint. The wait time will be displayed in Terminal A and on the airport’s website and mobile website.
The system uses video analytics to monitor passenger numbers and processing times. Cameras will be installed at security entrance and exit points in busier Terminal A and calculate the time it takes for the last passenger in line to move through the security checkpoint.
Features include:

  • Tracks passengers passively as they go through security checkpoints
  • Presents information in real time in the terminal and on the airport website and mobile website
  • Video analytics monitor passenger flow and processing times.
  • Historical data capture and report generation to empower airport partners to make staffing changes and anticipate crowds

With more than 8 million passengers annually, the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) contributes more than $5 billion to the region’s economy. The Gateway for South Texas SAT offers nonstop service to 35 destinations and, in 2012, was named the nation’s 10th largest gateway to Mexico. The San Antonio Airport System also includes Stinson Municipal Airport (SSF), the 2nd oldest continuously operating airport. A department of the City of San Antonio, the system is funded by an enterprise fund supported by user and tenant fees. For more information, visit SanAntonio‐Airport.com or Facebook/SATAirport.
