Dubai, March 22, 2015:  Smartworld, a leading master systems integrator and Digital ICT service provider in the Middle East, is supporting Dubai Airports’ drive for smart technology at Dubai International via a slew of projects at its three terminals, including Flight Information Display System (FIDS) and Video Walls.

A joint venture between Etisalat, and Dubai World Central (DWC), the company has been contracted to support multiple projects across DXB including special airport systems (SAS) including network security and full master system integration.

Dubai International, which late last year became the world’s number one airport for international passengers, is projected to handle over 79 million passengers this year.

In line with its vision to enhance seamless travel experiences and improve its operational performance, Dubai Airports is continuously investing in technology and working on developing next-generation facilities for the passengers.

Wesam Jammoul, Senior Director, Digital Implementation Services, Smartworld, said:   “Our SAS solutions have been designed to meet the present day demands and requirements for advanced and cutting edge ICT technology for the region’s rapidly growing aviation segment. We are proud to be associated with Dubai International’s impressive growth and Dubai Airports’ desire to provide the best solutions in terms of technology, interoperability and integration with existing system.”

This includes the state-of-the-art FIDS solution and 5x5 Video Wall with full High Definition (HD) output for all video wall screens using powerful and best-fit controllers at Dubai International.

Established in 2008, Smartworld has a strong track record of successful deployments and implementations of state-of-the-art ICT system at Al Maktoum International in DWC and the installation and implementation of a first-of-its-kind Open and Equal Access Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) at DWC.

Jammoul said rapidly changing technology implies a dynamic demand scenario. “Customers are more focused on solutions rather than a single brand. Customized solutions hence become all the more important. Smartworld has worked with Dubai Airports and other partners to create vendor-independent environment solution with open and standard protocols. This solution provides full freedom to choose the best breed vendors,” he said.

Talking about the challenges, he said providing 24x7 onsite support services, especially FIDS across the airport including arrivals, departures, check-in, boarding gates, arrivals, VIP lounges and other areas, meant the system needed to be fool-proof with no room for errors. “Even if one screen is down, it could affect flight operations. Similarly, we had to ensure that the database head end was not impacted at all,” he remarked.

The projects that Smartworld supported at Dubai International include: The Largest NEC Video Wall Screens at Terminal 3, 372 Samsung FIDS and SAS/ELV Project System at Terminal 2, Many Samsung Advertisement Screens in different locations across the terminals and concourses, 750 LG FIDS Screens at Concourse 4 and FIDS, SAS, ELV Systems at Terminal 1. Our scope includes the full 24/7 onsite support and service desk.
