Orlando International Airport Commits To Environmentally Friendly Purchasing Practices

March 17, 2015

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) will implement new purchasing and procurement practices that reaffirm its commitment to creating an environmentally-conscious culture at Orlando International Airport.
GOAA Executive Director Phil Brown signed the Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Pledge to encourage all airport departments, vendors, and service partners to incorporate environmental considerations into their purchasing practices.

“The signing of this pledge marks a pivotal point for the Authority,” said Brown. “It supports our Sustainability Management Plan along with inspiring social responsibility and enhancing customer service.”
The pledge applies to the following types of products:

 Consumable items
 Durable goods: Appliances, electronics, furniture and maintenance equipment
 Mercury-containing items
 Building materials for alterations and additions
 Process and cleaning chemicals

The Authority’s culture of sustainability started with the terminal’s innovative design, where natural daylight helps reduce energy consumption and operational costs, and extends outdoors with conservation-centric water management methods. This current effort will now promote a reduction in the amount of solid waste generated, an increase in recycled materials recovered from the Authority’s operation and maximizing the procurement of recycled, energy efficient and safe products.

Through active participation and collaboration with The City of Orlando’s Green Works Initiative and Orange County’s
Sustainability Program, the Authority continues to take on a role of social responsibility and leadership in the community, the
region and the nation for the future.
