RFD recognized for financial and training excellence

The Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) has been recognized with two distinguished awards this month, honoring excellence in both financial reporting and training.

The Greater Rockford Airport Authority (GRAA) has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 17th consecutive year. The award was given in recognition of RFD’s comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) and is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Additionally, RFD was one of 92 airports in the country that was recognized with an ANTN Digicast Excellence in Airport Training award by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). This award signifies that RFD employees have completed a specified amount of federally mandated airport-specific and continuing education training.

“The airport leadership and staff work diligently to operate all aspects of the airport with a priority of excellence,” said RFD Executive Director Mike Dunn. “We are pleased that our efforts have been recognized by two distinguished organizations within our industry.”

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington D.C.

The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) is the world’s largest professional organization representing the men and women who work at public-use commercial and general aviation airports. AAAE’s 5,000-plus members represent some 850 airports and hundreds of companies and organizations that support the airport industry.

RFD is served by two airlines:  Allegiant and Apple Vacations.  RFD serves eight non-stop destinations including Cancun, Ft. Myers, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Puerto Vallarta, Punta Cana and Tampa Bay.  RFD was named the 2013 Primary Airport of the Year by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics.
