Menzies To Handle South Africa's First LCC

Skywise Airlines launched its inaugural flight on Feb. 11.

Menzies Aviation (South Africa) is proud to handle the first Low-Cost Carrier to enter the South African market since 2013.

Skywise Airlines launched its inaugural flight on 11 February by giving the opportunity to 95 schoolchildren (supported by the Thembekile Mandela Foundation) to fly for their first time from Johannesburg to Cape Town. On the eve of the opening of Parliament in South Africa, these children accompanied by Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter, Ndileka Mandela, had the opportunity to lay a wreath at the foot of the Nelson Mandela statue at parliament in Cape Town.

“In a market with aggressive competitor pricing, the award of a LCC contract is a reflection of the value they place on Menzies’ reputation” said Ian Van Rooyen, VP South Africa and Namibia. Due to the start-up nature of the airline, they entrusted Menzies with most services to concentrate on their core offering.

Skywise have ambitious plans to expand operations to the 3 major stations in South Africa within the next 6 months. Menzies provide full passenger, ramp and cleaning services including being the second regional airline to make use of the Menzies DCS system.
