NATA Joins Other GA Associations In Support Of Affordable ADS-B Options

Jan. 23, 2015

Washington, DC, January 23, 2015 – Today, the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) joined other leading general aviation associations in a letter requesting the FAA’s technical standards office assign its highest priority to working with the GA community to ensure the certification of affordable ADS-B solutions in advance of the 2020 equipage requirement.

The following is a statement by National Air Transportation Association President and CEO Thomas L. Hendricks:

"The use of ADS-B transponders aboard general aviation aircraft is one of the critical elements in the nation’s transition from ground-based to satellite-based air traffic control.  Affordable equipage is an important matter to aviation businesses whether their business model relies on utilizing GA aircraft or providing services to the GA community in areas where ADS-B transponders will be required.

NATA commends the FAA for its work in deploying the new satellite based-system, and when fully realized, it will deliver immeasurable safety benefits to the general aviation community through its ability to provide a vastly improved array of vital information directly to cockpits. To its credit the FAA, through its Equip 2020 initiative, recognizes this challenge and we appreciate their thoughtful approach to addressing this issue.  However, with the equipage deadline rapidly approaching, we want to ensure the agency’s technical standards office makes addressing this challenge its top priority.”
