Nov. 25, 2014
Alaska Airlines will launch new daily nonstop service to Seattle starting July 1, 2015.

MILWAUKEE (November 25, 2014) – Passengers will have another airline to choose from next year, when Alaska Airlines starts service from Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport.  Alaska Airlines will launch new daily nonstop service to Seattle starting July 1, 2015.

“This is more great news for MKE and the growing number of people who fly out of Milwaukee. Alaska Airlines will strengthen our west coast service, and travelers can reach dozens of cities throughout the Pacific Northwest with one easy connection in Seattle,” County Executive Chris Abele said. “As we continue to improve MKE and attract new service, we believe we will have more exciting announcements like this to share in the future.”

Alaska’s new nonstop service to Seattle will be operated with spacious Embraer E175 jets, featuring 12 seats in first class and 64 in coach.  Onboard amenities include Wi-Fi Internet access, streaming inflight entertainment and 110 volt power in every first class seat. Food and beverage will include hot meals and picnic packs for purchase, in addition to Northwest microbrews and wine.

The new flight will depart Milwaukee every day at 3:50 p.m. and arrive in Seattle at 5:55 p.m.  The return flight will leave Seattle at 9:35 a.m. and arrive in Milwaukee at 3:10 p.m.  Sale fares for the Milwaukee-Seattle route start at just $119 each way.  Alaska’s flights can be found online at www.alaskaair.com.

“We’re excited to recruit another great airline to Mitchell Airport.  I’m confident that the Alaska Airlines brand will be well-received in Milwaukee,” Interim Airport Director Terry Blue added.  “Our low fares continue to draw passengers from throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois, and these travelers will appreciate that Alaska Airlines is coming to Milwaukee.”

According to newly-released U.S. Department of Transportation statistics, Mitchell’s fares were lower than 77 of the top 100 largest airports.  MKE’s average fares in the 2nd Quarter of 2014 were $58 less than Chicago O’Hare’s and $33 less than the national average.

Alaska Airlines, based in Seattle, serves over 90 destinations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Mitchell Airport offers nonstop flights to 37 destinations coast-to-coast – many on full-size mainline aircraft – and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection.  MKE is also served by Southwest, Delta, United, American/US Airways, Frontier, and Air Canada.  The complete list of nonstop cities can be found at www.mitchellairport.com.

General Mitchell International Airport is owned by Milwaukee County and operated by the Department of Transportation, Airport Division, under the policy direction of the Milwaukee County Executive and the County Board of Supervisors. The airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the airport’s capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
