West Star has continued to expand its recycling program, which included: 11, 250 lbs (225 batteries) of lead acid and NiCad aircraft batteries, 13,721 gallons of lacquer thinner, 4,760 gallons of used oil, and 9,200 lbs of aircraft and automotive tires.

Grand Junction, CO, October 21, 2014—West Star Aviation is proud to announce they have received the Gold Leader Award from  the Colorado Governor’s Environmental Leadership Program (ELP). This is the first time West Star has received the Gold Leader Award, but they have been recognized as a Silver Achiever three years in a row, after being first recognized as a Bronze Achiever in 2010.

West Star received their award during a ceremony held in Denver, Colorado, on October 2, 2014.

The Environmental Leadership Program is a statewide environmental recognition and reward program administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Sustainability Program.  The program’s goal is to foster relationships, reward environmental performance and create a healthier, cleaner and more sustainable Colorado.

“We have been working towards the Gold Leader level since we first started participating in the Environmental Leadership Program in 2010, so this award is very exciting for us,” says Dave Krogman, General Manager, West Star Aviation.  “Environmental responsibility is one of our main priorities at West Star, and we will continue to expand our “green initiatives” throughout our facilities.”

In order to be recognized as an ELP Gold Leader, West Star had to continue to uphold the ELP requirements while also having in place a fully operational, facility-specific Environmental Management System. This means they passed the strict qualifications held by the state of Colorado, as well as upholding the regulations put forth by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, including implanting sustainability efforts such as energy efficiency, waste minimization, and water conservation.
