Contribution Fuels Free Flights for Cancer Patients to Access the Best Medical Care

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 21, 2014 – In a presentation held at the world's largest civil aviation trade show, the National Business Aviation Association's (NBAA) Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, Phillips 66® Aviation presented Corporate Angel Network (CAN) with a $21,000 donation contribution. CAN is the only charitable organization in the U.S whose sole mission is to help cancer patients access the best possible medical treatment by arranging free air travel to recognized treatment centers. The organization does this by utilizing the empty seats onboard corporate jets during their normal business trips.

Phillips 66 Aviation’s donation to CAN represents proceeds garnered from the Corporate Angel Award, a unique program that recognizes corporations and their flight departments that have demonstrated outstanding dedication as participants in Corporate Angel Network. Phillips 66 Aviation has participated in the program since 2010, donating more than $100,000.

Flight departments working with CAN are featured in quarterly, full-page aviation magazine ads, sponsored by Phillips 66 Aviation, Safe Flight Instrument Corporation and Business & Commercial Aviation magazine.

“Phillips 66 Aviation recognizes how essential it is for families affected by cancer to access safe and affordable air transportation to and from medical facilities that are sometimes hundreds if not thousands of miles away,” said Rosemary Leone, Director Programs Development, General Aviation, Phillips 66. “We applaud and support Corporate Angel Network and the countless number of families who have access to world-class medical treatment while alleviating the financial burden and stress of getting there.”

Working in conjunction with corporate flight departments, CAN arranges approximately 3,000 free patient flights each year. More than 46,000 flights have been coordinated by CAN since its inception in 1981.

“Corporate Angel Network depends on the generosity of organizations like Phillips 66 Aviation to support our mission in providing free travel on corporate jets for cancer patients, bone marrow donors and bone marrow recipients,” said Dick Koenig, Executive Director, Corporate Angel Network. “Phillips’ substantial donation will go a long way in bringing patients and their loved ones to and from medical facilities to receive the best possible medical attention and treatment, and we sincerely thank Phillips 66, Safe Flight and Business and Commercial Aviation for their much appreciated generosity.”

About Corporate Angel Network

Corporate Angel Network, based at Westchester County Airport, arranges free transportation for cancer patients to specialized treatment through the use of empty seats on corporate jets already going to the desired destinations. Since its first flight in 1981, CAN, a 501(c)(3) organization with Public Charity status, has provided nearly 47,000 flights to adults and children whose best treatment options are often long journeys from home. Volunteers and a small staff coordinate the medical travel needs of patients with the scheduled flight activity of more than 560 participating corporations (including half the Fortune 100) resulting in about 225 patient flights each month.
