Mustique Airways Flys for Breast Cancer Awareness & Research

Scheme Designers' paint scheme turns heads & brings visibility to initiative

October 21, 2014 – NBAA, Orlando, Florida.   In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the annual National Business Aviation Association Exhibition and Convention, Scheme Designers (NBAA Booth 3929) is highlighting the extraordinary efforts of their customer, Mustique Airways, and their fight against breast cancer.  Living by their belief to “always give back”, Mustique Airways, over the next 24 months, will donate funds to Sunnybrook Foundation in Toronto to assist with breast cancer research.  The airline will also donate funds to provide care and treatment to women in St. Vincent and the Grenadines who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  These donations will be underwritten, in part, by dedicating a portion of operational revenues from Mustique Airways, whose fleet of 5 aircraft is based in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  Mustique Airways has provided private charter services and scheduled airline service throughout the Eastern Caribbean for over 35 years.

The roots of this initiative reach back several years when Mustique Airways was approached by a young Vincentian and her father to request assistance with air travel from St. Vincent to Barbados for chemotherapy sessions. The young lady was always vibrant with a positive outlook. Sadly, she passed away, possibly due to late detection and diagnosis.

Jonathan Palmer, owner of Mustique Airways says, “It is important to all of us at Mustique Airways to support the extraordinary team at Sunnybrook Foundation as they pursue revolutionary treatments and a cure for breast cancer.  In our eyes, every month is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”, so our calendar is comprised of 12 Octobers.   For this initiative, we’re flying for breast cancer awareness and research for 24 Octobers.”

In the summer of 2014, Mustique Airways had one aircraft in the company’s fleet, their Commander 500 (J8-PUG – photos included), painted to commemorate the initiative.  Mustique Airways features Sunnybrook’s unique approach to life-saving and improving breast cancer research and treatment through detailed features in their in-flight publication.  The airline’s crews and employees also sport lapel pins of J8-PUG, pink lanyards, and the company will use special boarding passes, baggage tags and travel documents through August 2016.

Jonathan worked directly with Craig Barnett, owner at Scheme Designers, and Alicia Solsman, Director of Special Designs Services, to design the pink ribbon motif, and in conjunction with airbrush artist John Stahr, to apply the unique scheme to the company’s Commander 500.  More information about Mustique Airways and their inspiring program can be found at www.mustique.com.

About Scheme Designers

Since 1997, Scheme Designers has pioneered the business of exterior design for aircraft of all types, sizes, and models - airline fleets, business jets, piston aircraft, as well as helicopters.  Around the globe, there are over 10,500 unique aircraft wearing a Scheme Designers paint scheme.  Over half of the OEMs delivering new aircraft have worked with Scheme Designers to develop the exterior styling for their factory new models, setting the standard for the industry as a whole.  The Scheme Designers team of artists and designers work with each customer from inception through application of their scheme at the paint shop of their choice, and their job isn’t done until the paint scheme has been executed perfectly and their customer is completely satisfied.

You’ve seen those aircraft with the remarkable paint jobs…aircraft that look fast and lean just sitting on the ramp; aircraft that have panache and communicate the personality of the owner; aircraft that make you smile.  There’s a good chance that the paint scheme was designed by one company and their very specialized team of artists…Scheme Designers...Art Above it All.
