Flights Powered by CF34s Engines Continue to Rise

Since 2004, daily passenger flights powered by CF34 engines have increased yearly, reaching more than 11,400 flights per day world-wide in 2013.

BARCELONA, SPAIN –- October 3, 2014—Flights on the world-wide fleet of CF34-powered regional jets in service have risen an average of 6 percent year-over-year during the last decade. Since 2004, daily passenger flights powered by CF34 engines have increased yearly, reaching more than 11,400 flights per day world-wide in 2013. Annual passenger flights with CF34 engines have grown to more than 4 million flights worldwide from 2 million flights in 2004.

“With outstanding durability and 99.95% reliability, the CF34 engine has played a significant role in the growth of regional jet travel worldwide,” said Kathy MacKenzie, general manager of Regional Engines & Services at GE Aviation. “CF34 operators recognize the proven performance of the engine line, and we continue to see an increase in orders for CF34-powered aircraft.”

During the last 18 months, GE received more than 640 CF34 engines orders as airlines continue to grow their regional jet fleets. GE has delivered more than 6,000 CF34 engines to the regional segment and has continuously invested in product enhancements since the engine entered service in 1992. Today, CF34 engines are in service with 120 operators in more than 60 countries. The engines have accumulated more than 108 million flight hours on Bombardier CRJ and Embraer E-Jet aircraft.

Engines in the CF34 engine family include:

  • With the highest thrust rating for the CF34 engine family at 20,000 pounds of thrust, the CF34-10E variant has more than 1,400 engines in service with more than 65 operators of Embraer's E190/195 aircraft and the EMBRAER Lineage 1000 business jet. The engines have accumulated more than 14 million flight hours and 10 million cycles. The CF34-10E engine is exceeding expectations for time to first shop visit by 20 percent, which means operators are flying up to 18,000 flight hours before first shop visit.. The CF34-10E engine also has excellent performance retention, providing operators with a $300,000 fuel savings per aircraft.
  • The CF34-10A engine continues to flight test on the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) ARJ21 regional jet. COMAC has announced orders for more than 250 ARJ21 regional jet aircraft.
  • The CF34-8 engine has more than 2,400 CF34-8 engines in service with 79 operators of Bombardier CRJ700/CRJ900/CRJ1000 and Embraer's E170/175s. The engines have accumulated more than 34 million flight-hours and 25 million cycles.
  • The CF34-3 engines helped launch a new era in aviation when it entered service on Bombardier's CRJ100 aircraft in 1992, spawning the start of regional jets in commercial aviation. More than to 2,200 CF34-3A1 and -3B1 engines have been delivered to power the Bombardier CRJ100/200 aircraft and have accumulated more than 56 million flight hours and 50 million cycles.
