MILWAUKEE (August 25, 2014) – For the sixth consecutive month, Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) has recorded an increase in passenger traffic, rising 3.3% in July compared to July of 2013.  610,965 passengers used MKE last month.  Year-to-date, Mitchell Airport's passenger traffic is up 2.7% from last year.

“This year’s sustained passenger growth shows that demand is increasing for air travel at Mitchell, and we continue to serve as an outstanding alternative to O’Hare for northern Illinois travelers,” said County Executive Chris Abele.  “We have a fantastic airport with low fares, inexpensive parking, and great nonstop service.  Just this morning, Southwest Airlines announced increased service on its routes from Milwaukee to New Orleans and Ft. Lauderdale, while Frontier Airlines announced new non-stop service to Orlando and Ft. Myers earlier this month.”

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Travel Statistics, MKE's average airfares were nearly $57 less than O'Hare, and $24 less than the national average in the 1st Quarter of 2014.

Mitchell Airport offers nonstop flights to 36 destinations coast-to-coast – many on full-size mainline aircraft – and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection.

MKE is served by Southwest/AirTran, Delta, United, American/US Airways, Frontier, and Air Canada.  The complete list of nonstop cities can be found at www.mitchellairport.com.

General Mitchell International Airport is owned by Milwaukee County and operated by the Department of Transportation, Airport Division, under the policy direction of the Milwaukee County Executive and the County Board of Supervisors. The airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the airport’s capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
