Minister Jacques Daoust Announces Substantial Financial Support for two Québec Aerospace Firms

Daoust has announced financial assistance totalling over $1 million for Québec firms RTI-Claro and Sinters America.

Farnborough, July 15, 2014 – In conjunction with the 49th Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom, Québec Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports Jacques Daoust has announced financial assistance totalling over $1 million for Québec firms RTI-Claro and Sinters America.

“It is essential for our government to be a partner with businesses in the realization of their promising projects for the Québec aerospace industry. That is what we are doing today by confirming two projects that reflect Québec’s enormous potential in this thriving sector,” Minister Daoust said.

RTI Claro

RTI Claro is a subsidiary of RTI International Metals, a firm that specializes, in particular, in the manufacture of titanium components used in the aerospace industry. The Québec government is granting it a $1-million non-repayable financial contribution to carry out a project worth $10 million. The RTI Claro project consists in increasing the company’s titanium alloy parts machining capacity and will create a dozen jobs.

Sinters America

Sinters America designs and manufactures maintenance test systems for the aerospace industry. It has received a non-repayable financial contribution of $35 775 from the Québec government to support its international marketing initiatives. Through the support, Sinters America has obtained a contract from Rockwell Collins to design and supply an electronics tester for the new PAVES^TMOn-demand in-flight entertainment system. The project will create a dozen jobs.

The Minister is also delighted with the success of Aéro Montréal and Montréal International, two key partners for the Québec government. Aéro Montréal has announced the development, in collaboration with Skywin, of the MACH initiative in Wallonia, and Montréal International has announced the establishment in Montréal of the Canadian head offices of Tech Mahindra and LTA Aérostructures. The companies will create nearly 500 jobs over three years.

Lastly, yesterday, following his visit to Québec’s display booth, the Minister attended the signing of an agreement between Aéro Montréal and the Italian Industries Association for Aerospace Systems and Defence. The agreement will enable Québec to establish business ties with major Italian aerospace firms.

“Our industry possesses all of the advantages necessary to move forward, in particular qualified workers and an attractive business environment. Through these competitive advantages, we are fostering the establishment in Québec of international businesses and are also enabling Québec firms to export and establish promising partnerships abroad,” Minister Daoust concluded.
