TEMPE, Ariz. – May 19, 2014 – StandardAero’s San Antonio facility was recently awarded the 2014 Texas Environmental Excellence Award (TEEA) for Water Conservation, issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).  The award recognizes the most innovative and effective projects that prevent pollution and preserve natural resources across the state of Texas.

The TEEA award is recommended by the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Committee and confirmed by Governor Rick Perry and the TCEQ commissioners.  StandardAero received its award for water conservation at its 350,000 ft² facility, located at the Port of San Antonio, Texas.

StandardAero has made significant investments at its San Antonio aircraft engine maintenance facility, changing industrial processes and modifying equipment and implementing a state-of-the-art water recycling and reuse system.  Modifications included the elimination of constant overflow rinse tanks, implemented Rinse Baths Analysis prior to replenishment and installation of new equipment that allows the reuse of industrial treated water through microfiltration, carbon filtration, reverse osmosis and evaporation technologies.

The new system has achieved a dramatic drop in water usage over the last 15 years enabling the recycling and reuse of 84% of the water that would otherwise go into the waste stream today -- representing millions of gallons per year.  Additionally, a condensate collection system was added to produce an incremental estimated savings of 10,000 to 40,000 gallons of water per month.

“We are excited and proud to be recognized for such a prestigious award,” said Terry Hastman, Vice President and General Manager of StandardAero San Antonio. “StandardAero is committed to promote global environmental protection as an integral part of the products and services that we provide for our valued customers.  We work hard to ensure that our legacy is and always will be one of integrity.”

The TCEQ pays tribute every year to individuals and organizations that provide environmental benefits while motivating others to accomplish similar goals.  StandardAero received its recognition at the annual TCEQ awards banquet to showcase winners’ environmental achievements on May 7 in Austin, Texas.
