COMSOFT Brings Denmark Closer To Superior Air Traffic Surveillance

NAVIAIR takes the next step towards countrywide distribution of COMSOFT’s cutting-edge Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) network

COPENHAGEN/DENMARK, May 2014 – This month the ANSP of Denmark, NAVIAIR, will commence system installation of COMSOFT’s innovative Quadrant solution, bringing Denmark towards their goal of heightened air traffic surveillance with WAM

With successful first stages completed the next step will roll out 25 WAM stations across 25 sites country-wide, including Ålborg, Århus, Billund, Copenhagen and Roskilde airports. Once completed the state-of-the-art surveillance network will allow for complex Air Traffic Management tasks to be performed, including in areas currently lacking comprehensive coverage.

German ATC expert COMSOFT’s ultra-compact remote sensors linked to a Quadrant Central Processor will provide the superior WAM and ADS-B surveillance capabilities, with high accuracy Multilateration coverage for Denmark’s 61,000 square km airspace and approaches, with an unrivalled ADS-B range extending beyond 300 NM.

COMSOFT’s Quadrant provides independent, genuine 3D, position measurement using Multilateration. Both the planned positions of sensors and the timing of information they collect will enable accurate positions to be determined for wide and local area systems, providing considerable range over secondary radar, with higher accuracy at significantly lower costs, with update rates of once per second completely feasible.

Henrik Tvilling Jensen, Project Manager, ATM Projects & Engineering at NAVIAIR, commented on the project so far stating: “COMSOFT have completed comprehensive Factory testing and we envisage a smooth next stage roll out as our respective teams work in harmony for a shared goal of increased surveillance for Denmark’s airspace.”

With the superior and lightweight product able to cope at extreme weather conditions it is the ideal solution for the Scandinavian country’s cold climate, and the widespread placement of compact receivers will allow any coastal surveillance gaps to be eliminated. Air Traffic Controllers are provided with precise aircraft position and identification data, irrespective of weather conditions.

The extreme low power consumption of the Quadrant product is another important highlight for ANSPs around the globe concerned with sustainability and efficiency, and has consequently been the perfect match for Denmark, whose capital city currently holds the 2014 title of European Green capital.
