LORD Corporation Wins Pratt & Whitney Canada Sustainability Award

May 13, 2014
P&WC selected LORD based on its investment in reducing the company's impact on the environment through the manufacturing cycle and through innovations in product development that reduce customers' environmental impact.

(Cary, N.C. – May 13, 2014) – LORD Corporation was presented the 2013 Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) Sustainability Award, an award to honor companies that minimize their impact on the environment while improving cost and efficiency in their operations. As part of P&WC strategy to be a sustainable company by 2028, this is the first year that the company offered the Sustainability Award, and only the corporation’s suppliers were eligible for nomination.

Nominees responded to a survey that evaluated each company’s level of involvement in applying sustainability within their organization. P&WC selected LORD based on its investment in reducing the company’s impact on the environment through the manufacturing cycle and through innovations in product development that reduce customers’ environmental impact. LORD received the award at the P&WC 28th Supplier Forum held on October 8, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Montreal.

The award reflects the company’s increased visibility to the customer and its continued investment in practicing sustainability. Many of LORD Corporation’s innovative products and solutions provide a safer, more sustainable environment for customers. LORD has created a high-performance, aqueous-based adhesive that minimizes the carbon footprint associated with the process of bonding rubber to metal or other dissimilar substrates. The company has also created UltraConductive Films and Coatings that have the potential to reduce the weight on wide-body aircraft by 1,300 pounds and in turn reduce fuel usage by 74 to 126 pounds per hour and carbon dioxide emissions by 260 to 416 pounds per hour.

LORD is also investing $100 million in a state-of-the-art aerospace manufacturing facility in Erie, Pa. The building contains many sustainable features, including a closed-loop water chiller system that enables a 75 percent reduction in water and the use of high-efficiency Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that produce a 30 percent reduction in lighting electrical consumption. In addition, its Richard L. McNeel Business Center, which opened in December 2012 in Cary, received Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

“We are honored to be named a winner of the 2013 Pratt & Whitney Canada Sustainability Award,” said David Vervoort, LORD Customer Manager. “LORD is committed to creating sustainable manufacturing processes and developing innovative new technologies and solutions to support our customers’ investments in sustainable products.”
