NIAR Will Host Ground Vibration Testing Class for LMS

Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research is working with LMS to offer a ground vibration testing class June 17-20 at the National Center for Aviation Training.

The 4-day Master Class provides a clear overview of the challenges and associated solutions for dynamic testing of full aircraft structures.  The master class rolls out an integrated approach to handle the test preparation, modal testing, modal analysis, numerical model correlation, model updating and model exploitation and  will focus on practical implementation, combining classroom lectures with an actual ground vibration test of a Beechcraft C90 or similar size aircraft. The topics to be covered in the GVT Master Class include:

• Structural Dynamics: theory and specific challenges of GVT on small, medium and large aircrafts
• Test preparation and de-risking
• Instrumentation of the aircraft
• Measurement set up validation
• Phase separation (random, stepped, swept sine excitations)
• Phase resonance techniques (normal modes testing)
• Modal analysis
• Finite element correlation and updating

The Master Class is intended for managers and engineers involved in dynamic testing of aircraft structures.

• Experience the value of hybrid Test/CAE technology that enables high interaction between test and simulation departments.
• Increase efficiency in identifying modal parameters of vibrating structures.
• Learn how to accelerate the correlation and updating of parameters using modal test data.

The participation fee for the 4-day Master Class is $2000.  It includes refreshments, lunch and training material. Course material, instructors, and test equipment provided by Siemens PLM Software Inc. Register here or contact Nicole Ellison.
