Duncan Aviation Expands Aircraft Accessories and Landing Gear Services

Gaining 6,300 square feet, Duncan Aviation has doubled bench space and added new tooling and expanded in-house capabilities, including a Skydrol hydraulic test bench, overhead crane and a new paint booth with curing room.

LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation more than doubled its accessory shop space at its Lincoln, Neb., location, with the refurbishment and expansion of its service area, gaining approximately 6,300 square feet, doubling bench space and adding new tooling and exanded in-house capabilities, including a Skydrol hydraulic test bench, overhead crane and a new paint booth with curing room.

In August, Duncan Aviation moved its landing gear team into a larger work shop that more than doubled its entire work area. With this expansion, Duncan Aviation’s accessories services has been able to increase productivity and safety with more efficient and streamlined production processes, reducing the risk of damage to people and equipment.

The safety and functionality of the service area was added with the installation of an overhead crane that covers approximately 1,200 square feet of the new shop space, allowing for better work flow. The crane is fitted to easily accommodate any make/model landing gear that comes to Duncan Aviation for service, including gear that can weigh up to 500 pounds. It also makes the shop even larger by not taking up valuable production space on the floor, allowing for the accessories area to gain bench space.

Duncan Aviation also invested in a Skydrol hydraulic test bench that will allow for the in-house testing on valves, hoses, accumulators, actuators and many other landing gear-related components, including function tests on all landing gear hydraulics. “With the addition of the test bench, we are able to take the guesswork out of troubleshooting and communicate better with our customers,” says Jerry Cable, Duncan Aviation’s Accessory Tech Rep. “Any customers who are currently in-house with their aircraft are able to watch first-hand while their units are being tested and get immediate results, saving the customer the extended downtime and added expense of having this test performed elsewhere.”

A new 300-square-foot dedicated paint booth and a 400-square-foot new cure room has increased the work capacity of the landing gear services, improving the time it takes for landing gear to go through the paint process.
