Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, today announces that it has reached agreement with Munich and Copenhagen airports to jointly work in the development and implementation of two new airport IT solutions. The products - Amadeus Airport Sequence Manager and Amadeus Airport Fixed Resource Optimiser – will form part of  Amadeus’ new suite of solutions for airports.

In collaboration with Munich Airport, one of the busiest European airports with nearly 400,000 aircraft movements in 2012, Amadeus will launch its Airport Sequence Manager. The solution optimises the flight departure runway sequencing and provides a common situational awareness for all participants in airport operations. Accurate data, improved predictability and on time performance are all assured, even in adverse conditions. Amadeus Airport Sequence Manager unlocks existing airport capacity and reduces slot wastage with an optimised departure sequence. The impact of adverse conditions on flight departure planning is reduced, in particular with de-icing procedures. Amadeus Sequence Manager is the heart of Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM), an industry initiative which aims to improve the operational efficiency of all airport operators, focusing on the aircraft turnaround and pre-departure sequencing process.

Working with Copenhagen Airport, Scandinavia’s main airport, Amadeus will develop Amadeus Airport Fixed Resource Optimiser. This solution is designed to determine the best possible fixed resource allocation against the flight schedule and attributes based on an airport’s and the airlines’ business drivers, including passengers. In the planning mode, the solution improves infrastructure utilisation through an optimised use of stands and gates leading to reduced costs. When it comes to operations, the solution permits an enhanced passenger and airline experience with a speedier turnaround process, or an easier and quicker transfer, diminishing the risk of flight delays.

Michael Zaddach, Senior Vice President IT, Munich Airport commented: “Today airports are at a crossroads and need to decide if they remain pure-play infrastructure managers or evolve the business model to become sophisticated and business-oriented service providers. However, this change poses significant challenges, many of which are technological. Amadeus is very well positioned at the heart of the travel ecosystem to help airports with this evolution and we are glad to cooperate to establish the foundations of a future-proof technology platform.”

Christian Poulsen, Vice President and CIO, Copenhagen Airport commented: “Operational efficiency improvements can only be transformational in an airport if all the interconnected players; airport operators, ground handlers and airlines ‘speak the same language’.” Poulsen continued: “Amadeus’ community approach to technology has improved the way airlines and ground handlers work together, and we keenly anticipate the day when airports too can be part of this integrated approach to operations.”

“Technology has the potential to transform the efficiency of airport operations, ensuring decision making across partners is more collaborative, more accurate and based on a view of customer and operational requirements from across the travel chain,” commented John Jarrell, Head of Airport IT, Amadeus. “We could not imagine better partners for the launch of our new solutions than Munich and Copenhagen, two of the most innovative airports in the world today and we are confident that working jointly with these two world class players will result in outstanding solutions for the airport community.”
