June 6, 2013 (Las Vegas, NV) — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) and Nevada business executives have embarked on several of foreign trade missions since the expansion and realignment of the State’s recent economic development efforts. Last month, the mission was a five day trip to Brazil. Las Vegas-based All Metal MS, a fast growing aviation maintenance equipment manufacturer, was part of the delegation to research the possibility of increasing trade to the country.
Nevada exports billions of dollars of goods and services annually to Switzerland, Canada, Mexico and Japan. State trade officials are now looking to build stronger trade ties with Brazil, Russia, India and China. In 2012, Nevada exports to Brazil totaled $49.1 million, an increase of 5% over the previous years.
“The purpose of this trade mission was to establish a stronger relationship with Brazil, both from a state and private industry perspective,” said Kristopher Sanchez, leader of the trade mission to Brazil and the Director of International Trade for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
The U.S. Department of Commerce recently reported that Nevada is one of 11 states in 2012 to experience double-digit growth; Nevada ranks third with an increase of 28%.
Sanchez also stated that All Metal MS, “is well on its way to establishing a successful business presence in Brazil” as a result of this GOED trade mission to Brazil.
With the assistance of Nevada’s GOED, All Metal was represented by Brazilian counsel Dr. Attila Andrade Jr., under Advocacia Attila de Souza Leão Andrade Jr. With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Andrade’s law practice, located in Sao Paulo, is well known for assisting U.S. companies to successfully establish in Brazil as Brazilian LTD operations. Dr. Andrade Jr., was instrumental in organizing and serving as an interpreter at key meetings with Brazilian officials.
All Metal’s President and CEO Johnny Buscema met with top-ranking officials from SUFRAMA, a government agency responsible for managing the Brazil’s Free Trade Zone, to discuss the benefits of opening a facility in Manaus. All Metal MS also met with Embraer, Brazil’s largest aircraft manufacturer. Ebraer is located in Sao Paulo, a location also under consideration by All Metal MS for its Brazil operation.
“Both Manaus and Sao Paulo provide a viable trade opportunity for All Metal, however, each location offers a unique set of challenges. We intend to consider all variables in our decision making process,” stated Johnny Buscema.
Buscema went on to say that his company is actively working to structure a Brazil LTD business model to operate in Brazil. “The support from GOED and Dr. Andrade was critical. We were also very humbled to see how genuinely receptive the Suframa Officials and the Embraer Team were to All Metal.”
Dr. Andrade Jr. added, “Embraer in Brazil was kind enough to offer All Metal the opportunity to provide a proposal on designing and manufacturing “safety first” custom assembly production stands for their Legacy 450 and Legacy 500. Based on our understanding during the meeting at Embraer, the objective is to propose a design that increases the production line efficiency and safety for the assembly crew.”
In addition to this GOED trade mission to Brazil, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval led trade missions to The People’s Republic of China, The Republic of Korea and Canada in 2012, and Governor Sandoval will lead trade missions to Mexico and Israel later this year. GOED will also lead two more trade missions to China this year. The purpose of these trade missions is to assist Nevada-based companies seeking to export goods and services to countries across the world.
