The AMTSociety, an organization dedicated to promoting the craft of the aviation maintenance profession, will host the presentation of the Bill O’Brien Snap-on Trophy in recognition of Team FedEx-LAX winning the Sixth Annual AMTSociety Maintenance Skills Competition. The ceremony takes place at the Flight Path Museum, May 2, at noon in Los Angeles.

“We were extremely impressed by the level of skill and expertise displayed by all the teams who competed in the AMTSociety Maintenance Skills Competition this year, but Team FedEx LAX really distinguished themselves in all the event categories, and are well deserving of this honor,” says Ron Donner,” editor AMT Magazine, and who also serves as a director on AMTSociety’s Board of Directors.

Team FedEx-LAX earned the prestigious traveling trophy at the Sixth Annual AMTSociety Maintenance Skills Competition, held in conjunction with AviationPros LIVE show, in Las Vegas in March. Snap-on Industrial, a leading manufacturer and supplier of tools and diagnostic systems for the aviation sector, designed and crafted the Bill O’Brien Snap-on Trophy, which features the bust of Charles A. Taylor, the father of the aviation maintenance profession, and mechanic for the Wright Brothers. This award is named after the late William “Bill” O’Brien who created the FAA’s Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award which recognizes aircraft mechanics who have achieved 50 years of working experience.

“The FedEx LAX team’s performance at AMTSociety’s 2013 Maintenance Skills Competition set a new standard for professional excellence and teamwork,” says Tom Murray, director of Marketing and Business Development, Snap-on Industrial. “Snap-on is proud to present the William F. “Bill” O’Brien Award for Excellence in Aircraft Maintenance to the FedEx LAX team. We look forward to their spirited defense of the title at next year’s competition.”

Team FedEx-LAX outpaced 23 other maintenance skills teams in this international event, which serve the needs of the general aviation, military, MRO, commercial aviation and education sectors. The event also featured teams from Australia, Canada and China; where teams were asked to complete skills relevant to aviation maintenance in a timed competition.
