FlightSafety Promotes David Welch to Manager Lafayette Learning Center

He replaces Ampy Calatayud who has been named Manager, West Palm Beach Learning Center.

LA GUARDIA AIRPORT, New York (April 11, 2013) – FlightSafety International is pleased to announce that David Welch has been promoted to Manager of the company’s Learning Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. He replaces Ampy Calatayud who has been named Manager, West Palm Beach Learning Center.

“We congratulate Dave on this well-deserved promotion to Manager of the Lafayette Learning Center,” said Greg McGowan, Senior Vice President, Operations. “Dave gained extensive experience with helicopter operations while serving in the United States Navy for 20 years. His military service, in-depth understanding of FlightSafety’s training programs, leadership skills, and commitment to provide high quality programs and services tailored to the specific needs of our Customers, made him the ideal person to lead the Lafayette Center.”

Dave began his career with FlightSafety in 1995 as a Senior Analyst and Program Manager. He joined the West Palm Beach Center team in 2005 as a Center Instructional Technologist and Instructor for the Sikorsky S-70. Dave was promoted to his most recent position as Director of Training at the Lafayette Center in 2008.

He supported Anti-Submarine and Anti- Surface Warfare missions as a helicopter pilot in the United States Navy. Dave retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1994 after serving for 20 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University, and an Airline Transport Pilot License.

The Lafayette Learning Center offers training using full flight simulators and other advanced training devices for the Bell Helicopter 206 and 407, Sikorsky S-76C+/C++, and Sikorsky S-92. FlightSafety’s first AgustaWestland AW139 simulator, equipped with glass mirror technology, has recently been installed at the Center.
