Lower Level Security Checkpoint to Close at BWI Marshall Airport, Effective Friday Morning

March 21, 2013
The primary security checkpoints for Concourses A and B, located on the upper level of BWI Marshall, will remain open and operational.

The lower level security checkpoint at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will be closed, effective Friday morning, March 22, 2013.  The closure of this lower level security checkpoint will allow BWI Marshall to continue construction of a new 9-lane security checkpoint as part of the Airport’s terminal enhancement program.  The screening technology and other equipment from the lower level checkpoint will be used at the new checkpoint facility.

The primary security checkpoints for Concourses A and B, located on the upper level of BWI Marshall, will remain open and operational.

BWI Marshall is in the midst of a major terminal enhancement program that will improve the Airport terminal and provide new services for travelers.  The construction includes a new, expanded passenger security checkpoint that will serve Concourses A, B, and C.  The new 9-lane security checkpoint will be comparable to the large, efficient security checkpoints that serve Concourses A and B.  The new checkpoint is projected to open later this spring.

Other terminal enhancements in the current construction program include a secure connector between Concourses B and C with moving sidewalks and other passenger amenities, and an improved Concourse C facility with updated airline gate hold rooms and new food and retail concessions.
