Prestwick, Scotland....BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has won a three-year spares support contract from the UK’s second largest regional airline Eastern Airways, covering 16 of its Jetstream 41 turboprop aircraft.

This new contract is for the MACRO (Materials and Components Repair and Overhaul) rate-per-flying-hour programme. The new MACRO contract will encompass 176 aircraft rotable parts and BAE Systems will be responsible for managing this spares inventory, logistics and repairs. This allows Eastern Airways to focus its attention on running its prime airline operations whilst BAE Systems provides a first-class support service.

The new MACRO contract effectively doubles the number of in-service 29-seat Jetstream 41s covered by BAE Systems. Other major operators of the aircraft that also have selected this BAE Systems support offering include Airlink of South Africa, Yeti Airlines of Nepal and Sky Express of Greece.

John Stevens, Head of Customer Support for BAE Systems Regional Aircraft said today: “We are delighted to have secured this important new rate-per-flying-hour contract from the largest Jetstream 41 operator in the world. Eastern Airways is an important British regional airline providing essential transport links serving businesses throughout the UK where reliability is crucial. We are proud that our support services, which we have supplied since the airline started Jetstream 41 operations 11 years ago, make a useful contribution to ensuring that Eastern Airways’ operations run smoothly.”

Paul Alcock, Eastern Airways’ Managing Director, said: “This new scheme gives us tremendous efficiency and flexibility gains as the process and speed in which spares and parts are supplied will help us to further improve timescale schedules for aircraft serviceability.  Reliability and on-time performance of flights is vital to our business, as it is what our customers rely on and expect as part of the service we provide.”

Eastern Airways is a long-established regional airline which first commenced operations in 1997. It operates over 800 flights a week on a comprehensive network of scheduled domestic and international services and private charter services.
