Botucatu, São Paulo, February 4th, 2013 – The Embraer Education and Research Institute inaugurated, in the city of Botucatu, The Colégio Embraer – Casimiro Montenegro Filho. The school, located 240 kilometers from the capital of São Paulo, is , a new unit of the Embraer High School, a model school focused on academic excellence for students from the public school system. The ceremony was attended by Luiz Carlos Quadrelli, São Paulo State Secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology, the Mayor of Botucatu, João Neto Cury and mayors from other cities in the region that benefit from the initiative, among other authorities.
Named in honor of one of the creators of the Aeronautics Technological (ITA), and the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA), the school can accommodate 360 students and is located next to Embraer’s Botucatu Unit, on land granted by the city government. The school’s installation required an investment of approximately R$5 million (U$2.5million).
“Education is key to our social investment, because it is the main path to transform society for the better,” said Frederico Fleury Curado, Embraer President and CEO. “Moreover, Embraer itself was born from a project focused on education, which began with the creation of the CTA and ITA, institutes devised by a Brazilian visionary: Casimiro Montenegro Filho.”
The first class of the new school, with 120 students in their first year of high school, began the 2013 school year today Monday, February 4th. The selected students receive a full scholarship for studies, uniforms, learning materials, meals at school and transportation. The lessons are taught full-time, Monday through Friday.
All students attended elementary school in the public school system (state and/or municipal) in Botucatu or seven other cities in the region (Anhembi, Areiópolis, Bofete, Itatinga, Pardinho, Pratânia e São Manuel) and, after applying for the Colégio Embraer - Casimiro Montenegro Filho School, had to meet a vigorous selection process conducted by Vunesp Some 1,200 candidates participated. All teachers and staff were hired in the region.
The new school will function in the same way the Colégio Embraer-Juarez Wanderley, in São José dos Campos, which has already graduated 1,800 students since its inception in 2002. Managed by the Embraer Institute, the school has remained among the best in the State of São Paulo, according to the National High School Exam (ENEM). Ever since 2008, the school’s pupils have regularly achieved 100% approval in Brazilian college entrance exams, with more than 80% of them going to public universities.
The educational model, developed and refined over the 10 years of activity of the first Embraer School, has three underlining goals: academic excellence, guidance for the job market, and cultural, social and environmental training. The new School will have the same goals and include classrooms, a library, and modern laboratories.
