Breathtaking Attraction Features Warplanes and Other Memorabilia as Part of a $325 Million Museum Complex

(Sun Valley, Calif.) January 17, 2013 – LA ProPoint, a leader in the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of stage and show systems, has completed another acclaimed installation at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company performed all of the design, engineering, and rigging for the B-17E, B-25J Mitchell, SBD-3 Dauntless, TBM Avenger, P-51D Mustang and the Corsair F4U-4 for the new pavilion. One of the largest museums to commemorate the events and sacrifices of World War Two, the National WWII Museum opened the new pavilion in January as it completes a sprawling $325 million campus of six buildings, which extends along three square blocks near the Pontchartrain Expressway.

The new structure is called the U.S. Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center, features several iconic and awe-inspiring artifacts from the War. LA ProPoint delivered the engineering, design and installation services that made the rigging of the aircraft inside the pavilion possible. Designed by the firm Voorsanger Mathes, the $35 million U.S. Freedom Pavilion honors U.S. fighting forces with a seven-story atrium and dramatic placement of warplanes, with catwalks that allow visitors to get at eye-level with the impressive machines and touch screens to explore the cockpits and controls.

“The U.S. Freedom Pavilion is a wonderful achievement for both LA ProPoint and the National WWII Museum,” said Mark Riddlesperger, founder and president of LA ProPoint. “This pavilion adds more depth and excitement to the narrative of this special museum. We were called in without much time and we orchestrated a herculean effort to complete the work. Now, we have an unforgettable attraction that honors the brave men and women of our greatest generation who helped protect our country and our way of life.”

In 2009, LA ProPoint provided other services to the museum and received a MUSE Gold MultiMedia Installation Award from the American Association of Museums (AAM) for its work on the “Beyond All Boundries” show inside the Soloman Victory Theatre. The Gold Award is the highest honor that the AAM bestows. Since November 2009, the multimedia attraction has set a new standard for immersive theater entertainment, employing 4D technology to launch audiences on an odyssey that brings to life “The War That Changed the World.” Spanning four continents, the experience recreates everything from the rumbling of tanks over the African desert to the oppressive heat of Pacific jungles as well as the penetrating cold of the Battle of the Bulge and the staccato rhythm of anti-aircraft fire over Nazi Germany.
