Chicago.

This annual conference, co-hosted by the CDA and the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), is the aviation industry's premier event for the development, communication and active discussion of sustainability initiatives. This year, more than 300 attendees including airport executives and industry experts from around the world, participated in the conference.

The conference featured welcome remarks and Chicago's sustainable vision by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Session speakers included national and international airport CEOs and managers and aviation sustainability leaders representing airports in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Government speakers/attendees represented the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), and the Airline Cooperative Research Program (ACRP). Airline sustainability leaders represented United Airlines, Federal Express, Boeing, and Airlines for America (A4A). Additional participants included sustainability leaders from the restaurant, freight, design, construction, engineering, media and transportation industries.
Airports Going Green Awards
The CDA presents the prestigious Airports Going Green Awards at the Conference. Awardees are recognized for their ability to embrace the principles of the Sustainable Airport Manual (SAM), exemplify sustainability leadership in the aviation industry, demonstrate innovation, and embrace the ideal of the triple-bottom line.

SAM Version 3.0 and A Sustainable Path Released
Commissioner Andolino released a new document outlining the CDA's vision to maintain its competitive position as a global aviation hub for the 21st century. A Sustainable Path describes the CDA's five key sustainability goals and the underlying targets to achieve each.
Major changes in SAM 3.0 include a new Operations & Maintenance Rating System, reorganization of existing credits, new credits for Concessions & Tenants, and establishment of mandatory requirements for achieving Mentor Certification under Concessions & Tenants. Both documents are available at www.airportsgoinggreen.org.
The Conference featured wide-ranging panel discussions and ended with a tour of the sustainability initiatives on the airfield and in the terminals at O'Hare International Airport, including the aeroponic Urban Garden.
