BLR Aerospace Delivers 500th Winglet System; FAA Installation Under Way on King Air 300 Fleet

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 29, 2012 – BLR Aerospace has delivered its 500th Winglet System to its largest Winglet customer to date – the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In May, BLR announced that the FAA had purchased 18 Winglet Systems with light-emitting diode (LED) lights for installation on its King Air 300 fleet. BLR Winglet Systems are now in operation in 40 countries.

The FAA is in the process of installing its third set of Winglets as part of a larger fleet upgrade effort, and the first modified aircraft is flying. FAA personnel operate the King Airs from four U.S. locations for flight inspection of the nation’s system of navigation aids, airport lighting and instrument approach procedures.

BLR representatives will be available to discuss and take orders for Winglet Systems and other performance-enhancing products during the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Annual Meeting and Convention, Exhibit #3566, Oct. 30–Nov. 1 in Orlando, Fla.

BLR offers a range of certified Winglet Systems for King Air 90, 200, and 300 aircraft models. In addition to supporting aftermarket customers, BLR Winglet Systems have been incorporated into production by the Original Equipment Manufacturer Hawker Beechcraft Corporation and are standard equipment on both the King Air 90 GTx and 250. The King Air B200GT Ultimate Performance Package, available as a fielded fleet retrofit, also incorporates the Winglet System and certified runway performance improvements while delivering an increase in maximum mach operating speed.

Winglet Systems enhance aerodynamics and safety for the King Airs on which they are installed, and operators report a range of handling and operational benefits, including fuel savings. Fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 5 percent, an important consideration as the price of fuel continues to climb.  In addition, Winglet Systems deliver 100 percent return on investment, according to Carl Janssens of the Aircraft Bluebook-Price Digest.

Winglets increase wingspan (by three feet five inches) as well as wing aspect ratio, lowering induced drag.  Reduced drag makes for faster flying and less fuel consumption. Winglets also act as a physical pressure barrier, which conserves valuable lift at the outboard extremities. Safety is enhanced through improvements to handling, OEI climb, and slow flight. 

BLR also offers an advanced LED Lighting System, which is especially helpful for pilots who frequently fly at night, and is far more visible and reliable than incandescent lighting systems.
